Austenite 조직의 특성상 굳이 예열을 하지 않아도 될 정도로 용접성이 좋은 것은 사실이지만, 그렇다고 해서 꽁꽁 얼은 것을 그대로 용접해도 좋다는 얘기는 좀 문제가 있는 접근이지요.
아마도 오늘같은 날씨에 현장에서는 그냥 용접을 하자고 달려들고, 감독하는 입장에서는 그걸 말리고는 싶은 데, 마땅한 근거가 없어서 고민인 것으로 이해됩니다.
철판의 온도가 너무 낮으면...
- 용접부에 가해지는 열응력과 열충격이 제법 크겠고,
- 급냉된 조직이 급 가열됨에 따른 문제점도 있겠고,
- 표면에 응결되어 있던 수분이 용접과정의 결함의 원인이 되기도 하겠고,
- 전체적으로 모재가 충분하게 예열된 상태 보다는 당연히 문제점 발생의 가능성이 많겠지요
- 게다가 승인된 WPS에 언급된 내용을 준수하지 않는 다는 것은 더더욱 문제이겠고,
- 영하의 날씨에서는 용접하지 말라는 조항들이 많은 문헌에 제시되는 것을 보면 그냥 쳐다만 보기엔 좀 그렇지요...
뭐 굳이 기술적인 내용을 따지지 않더라도 절차를 준수하는 노력이 필요하다고 생각합니다.
그런데, 실제로 현장에서 이런 상황을 접하게 되면 참 난감하지요.
제 생각에는 그냥 가스 토치로 표면의 응결된 수분을 날려버리는 정도 만이라도 해 주는 것이 좋겠습니다.
