다른게 아니라 GTAW의 유럽식 표기를 TIG용접이라고 알고있는데요

CO2용접(FCAW)의 표기를 어떻게 되는지 모르겠네요

그리고 MIG/MAG의 상응하는 AWS 표기 방법도 알고 싶습니다.

가끔은 별것도 아닌 표기법의 구분이 사람 머리를 복잡하게 하곤 하지요

알고 계신 것 처럼 GTAW는 미국식 표현이고 유럽에서는 이를 TIG라고 합니다.

그렇다면 FCAW나 GMAW는 유럽에서는 어떻게 구분하여 부를 것인가?

아래 조금 긴 원문을 TWI로 부터 발췌하여 소개합니다.

The European standard, BS EN ISO 4063:2000 Welding and allied processes - Nomenclature of processes and reference numbers, assigns a unique number to the main welding processes. These are grouped as follows:

- Arc welding
- Resistance welding
- Gas welding
- Forge welding
- Other welding processes
- Brazing, soldering and braze welding

Each process is identified within the group by a numerical index or reference number. For example, the MIG welding process has a reference number of 131 which is derived as follows:

1 - Arc welding
3 - Gas-shielded metal arc welding
1 - Metal arc inert gas welding

The main arc welding process reference numbers are:
111 manual metal arc welding;
114 self-shielded tubular-cored arc welding;
121 submerged arc welding with one wire electrode;
125 submerged arc welding with tubular cored electrode;
131 metal inert gas welding (MIG welding);
135 metal active gas welding (MAG welding);
136 tubular cored metal arc welding with active gas shield;
141 tungsten inert gas arc welding (TIG welding);
15 plasma arc welding;
The reference numbers are used as a convenient way of identifying the welding process in documentation such as welding procedure (BS EN ISO 15614) and welder qualification (BS EN 287 and BS EN 9606) records.

그렇게 되면 136에 해당하는 것이 FCAW가 되겠지요.

Flux Cored Arc Welding
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) is quite similar to MIG/MAG welding as far as operation and equipment are concerned. However, the electrode is not solid but consists of a metal sheath surrounding a flux core. The electrode begins life as a flat metal strip, which is formed first into a ‘U’ shape. Flux and alloying materials are deposited into the ‘U’, which is then closed into a tube by a series of forming rolls.

As in MIG/MAG welding, the flux cored process depends on a gas shield to protect the weld zone from atmospheric contamination. The gas is either applied separately, in which case the electrode is referred to as a gas shielded flux cored electrode, or it is generated from the decomposition of gas forming ingredients contained in the flux core (self shielding). In addition to the gas shield, the flux cored electrode produces a slag covering for further protection of the weld metal as it cools. This is subsequently removed.


MIG/MAG or GMAW
With MIG (Metal Inert Gas) or MAG (Metal Active Gas) welding also called Gas-Shielded Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) an arc is maintained between a continuous solid wire electrode and the work piece. The arc and weld pool are shielded by a stream of inert or active gas. The process is suitable for most materials and filler wires are available for a wide range of metals.

MIG/MAG welding is inherently more productive than MMA, where productivity losses occur each time a welder stops to replace a consumed electrode. Material losses also result from MMA welding when the stub of each electrode is thrown away. For every kilogram of coated stick electrode purchased, about 65 per cent becomes part of the weld (the rest being discarded). The use of solid wire and flux cored wire has increased this efficiency to 80-95 per cent. MIG/MAG welding is a versatile process, which can deposit weld metal at a very high rate and in all positions. The process is widely used on light to medium gauge steel fabrications and on aluminium alloy structures particularly where high-rate manual operator production is required. The introduction of flux cored wires is finding increased application in heavy steel structures.
