I think the reactor has been in abnormal condition. If it is not available to remove the situation during operating, you have to consider upgraded materials for the impeller (may be blade). e.g., Incoloy 800/825, Monel 400, Hastelloy C276/C-22/B-2, Inconel 600/625, and Ni-Resist casting according to the operating condition.
304, 316, 317 (including L grade) do not have corrosion resistance in acid solution. For example, 316 and 316L have corrosion rate, 0.114mm/year in 1wt% HCl at 65 deg.C or 6.5mm/year in 5wt% HCl at 20 deg.C. Normally L grade in stainless steels is useful (good corrosion resistance) in neutral and basic solution containing chloride ion.
If the reactor is operating below about 425 deg.C (I am sure 100% will be in this condition), it is not required special creep-rupture strength (=high carbon, 0.04 to 0.10%).
As Mr. Lee mentioned, normally the part should be taken good strength (against high viscosity or sludge) and hardness (against particles) as well as corrosion resistance.
I believe Mr. Lee’s further advise will be helpful to you.
Impeller
