(ASTM A182 Para 6.3.1)
I believe you can find the best answer from the footnote 5 in ASTM A182.
==== Footnote 5 ==== [my additional rationale]
A solution annealing temperature above 1950 °F (1065 °C) may impair the resistance to intergranular corrosion after subsequent exposure to sensitizing conditions [greatly depends on the exposure time in sensitization temperature from 800 to 1500°F (427 to 816°C)] in F 321, F 321H, F 347, F 347H, F 348, and F 348H. [The duration time of hot forging followed by solution annealing above 1065 °C will be increased as much as enough to exposure sensitization.]. When specified by the purchaser, a lower temperature stabilization or resolution annealing shall be used subsequent to the initial high temperature solution anneal (see Supplementary Requirement S10).
================= =================== ==================
In addition to the footnote 5, the duration time of hot forging followed by solution annealing above 1900 °F (1040 °C) in 304H and 316H may also impair the resistance to intergranular corrosion (greatly depends on the exposure time in sensitization temperature) due to high carbon contents about 19Cr-9Ni basis.
Meanwhile the terminology of “소입” (hardening) is only used for the process of rapid cooling from the austenitizing temperature to increase the strength and hardness in carbon or low alloy steels. So the name should be QUENCHING for SS or Nickel Alloy (See KS D0049).
Mr. Lee,
It is confusing to make sense what you say in the following sentences of your answer.
Thanks for your information. Here are some more answers.
All ASTM materials have the quality assurance as a minimum. One of cases is that the requirement of solution heat treatment (SH) is mandatory for all ASS (austenite SS) and DSS (duplex SS) products* by hot work/finish regardless of H, L or stabilized class. It means no Cr-carbides are allowed for the final products of the ASS and DSS materials in ASTM.
* plate, pipe, tube, forging, cast, fitting, etc.
If the grade “H” is used only for the creep strength at high temperature without any other liquid corrosion environment**, the SH of the base metal may not be necessary. Can you waive the SH of A182-F316H in this case? My answer is No because the material without SH is not qualified as A182-F316H. In addition, the material with hot forging followed by solution annealing may have some Cr-carbides in the final product.
** Nevertheless all materials used normally at high temperature may be exposed to liquid environment at upset, shut-down and start-up condition.
