Traditionally the two ways to avoid vibration problems (which produce the erosion-corrosion) are to support the tubes as rigidly as possible (i.e., close baffle spacing or NTIW) and to keep the velocities low. In addition, some detuning (deresonating) baffles (one or more with clips, wedges, flat bars, helical spacers, or baffles-most popular) may be installed to avoid resonance problem by change of the acoustic frequency. HTRI requires these deresonating baffles must be parallel to both the direction of crossflow and the centerline of the tubes. These baffles shall extend at one side of the bundle as far as possible towards the shell wall. HTRI may give you the most optimized type, size, quantity, and location of the deresonating baffles.
