WPS 작성시 Backing과 Retainer의 차이점이 무엇인가요?
모재와 융합되는것과 안되는것이라는 문구만 있어서 이해가 잘 안됩니다.

1) Retainer
Non-consumable material, metallic or nonmetallic, which is
used to contain or shape molten weld metal
2) Backing
A material placed at the root of a weld joint for the purpose
of supporting molten weld metal so as to facilitate complete
joint penetration
* 일반적으로 Retainer는 용융풀을 받쳐 주거나 형상을 만들기
위해 수냉이 되는 동합금이나 세라믹 계통 재질을 이용하며
용융풀과 서로 용착이 되지 않으며,
Backing은 용융풀을 지지한다는 측면은 비슷하나, Root
위치에서 지지해주는 역할을 하며 용융풀과 서로 용착을 하는
것이 특징입니다.
ASME Section IX의 용어 해설(QW-492)에 따르면
1) Retainer
Non-consumable material, metallic or nonmetallic, which is
used to contain or shape molten weld metal
2) Backing
A material placed at the root of a weld joint for the purpose
of supporting molten weld metal so as to facilitate complete
joint penetration. The material may or may not fuse into the
joint.(용접이음부내에서 용용이 되거나 되지 않거나 모두 포함됨)
처음의 답변은 모재와 용융되는 부분에 대해 일반적인 답변을
드린 사항이며, Backing의 경우는 용접이음부내에서 용용이 되거나 되지 않거나 모두 포함됩니다.
즉, 용융이 되나 않되냐로 Retainer 또는 Backing을 구분하는 것은 불명확하며, 사용 목적으로 구분하는 것이 더 정확할 것으로 판단됩니다. 세라믹이 Plate to Plate의 Butt Joint에서 Root에 위치하여 완전 용입을 용이하게 하기 위해 사용된 다면 Backing으로 구분하는 것이 바람직합니다.
만약 용용풀의 특정 형상을 만들기 위해 세라믹을 Container 형태로 제작하여 사용한다면 Retainer로 구분할 필요가 있습니다.
